Romance & Elevation When our Président, Matthew Sabourin, realized he couldn’t start a vineyard on his parents’ farm, he asked himself, “why can’t we treat beer with the same prestige as wine?” It’s more complex, diverse in style, experimental, and the process allows brewers to imbue their own character into a beer – and the best part, it can be brewed right here with local ingredients. Métis Francophone Proud For our président, Matthew Sabourin, being Métis francophone is essential to his identity. He was born into a family that cherishes large family gatherings where everyone plays an instrument, has a story to tell, and is no stranger to tourtière, tarte au sucre, and beigne croche (mandatory menu items at all get-togethers). The Métis Economic Development Fund (MEDF) is a registered shareholder in La Brasserie Nonsuch Brewing Co. Deep Roots Four years ago, Matthew made a discovery about his personal connection to métis history that would leave him in awe. After completing genealogy research, it was discovered he is a descendant of Jean-Baptiste Lagimodière and Marie-Anne Gaboury (grandparents of Louis Riel). With the help of CBC, Matthew was able to cross our country and retrace the famous route taken by his ancestors and dive into his past; A truly remarkable link between the past and future. Our vision is one where our home continues to flourish, becoming more diverse, equitable, just, sustainable, inclusive, and progressive. Our fellow citizens are happier and prouder than ever to call Winnipeg home. That’s our vision.
