Verification and Eligibility

To be featured in the IBD, businesses must meet specific criteria to confirm Indigenous ownership and control. The primary requirement is that the business must be at least 51% owned and controlled by Indigenous peoples. Eligible businesses include:

Bands as defined by the Indian Act
Sole proprietorships
Limited companies
Co-operatives
Partnerships
Not-for-profit organizations with at least 51% Indigenous ownership and control
Joint ventures involving one or more Indigenous businesses or a combination of Indigenous and non-Indigenous businesses, provided Indigenous businesses hold at least 51% ownership and control

Proof of Eligibility

Please provide a copy of one of the following acceptable proofs of Indigenous status:

Indian registration in Canada
Citizenship with the Manitoba Métis Federation
Recognition by an established Indigenous community in Manitoba
Enrollment or entitlement to be enrolled in a comprehensive land claim agreement
Membership or entitlement to membership in a group with an accepted comprehensive claim
